Houston, Texas – This past December Travisoft, a software company specializing in benefit administration solutions, hosted their second annual holiday sock drive benefiting local non-profit Healthcare for the Homeless Houston (HHH). Healthcare for the Homeless Houston is dedicated to supporting the homeless community by promoting health, hope, and dignity through accessible and comprehensive care.
Travisoft kicked off the sock donation drive by inviting two of HHH's members to come and speak at the company's headquarters. Carli Brown, Chief Development Officer, and Sharon Agee, Community Health Worker, shared the organization's mission with Travisoft’s staff. The women explained how donating items like socks can have a profound effect on those they serve, not only to provide warmth and protection from the cold, but to also make those less fortunate feel as if they have been seen and heard. In 2010, Healthcare for the Homeless Houston served 10,170 homeless men, women and children through their clinics, outreach initiatives, and support services.
With last year’s sock drive donations totaling 1,844, Travisoft set that number as the goal to beat this year. The company is happy to report that the donation drive not only beat 2013's numbers, but exceeded the goal by 400 pairs of socks raised, plus an additional 50% matching donation from the company. Travisoft staff members dropped off 2,268 pairs of socks to Healthcare for the Homeless' clinic in downtown Houston on New Year's Eve.
Travisoft is proud and grateful to have been a part of this donation drive, and that their staff was able to come together for a common goal during the Holiday Season. The Travisoft team looks forward to what they can accomplish together in 2015.
